A furnace that keeps starting and stopping is "short cycling." If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas company or 911 from outside.
Otherwise, check these three things:
- Filter: replace it if it's dirty.
- Thermostat: put in new batteries and move anything warm away from it.
- Vents: make sure nothing is blocking them.
Still cycling? It may be a dirty flame sensor or an overheating part. Get it checked early to avoid bigger repairs.
